PERSONAL BRAND

Objetive: People, as well as companies, have a brand. Your personal brand needs to have a purpose and position itself in relation to that.

We can say that personal brand is the idea that comes to mind when someone else thinks of you or what you stand out for (values, skills), what sets us apart from other people and professionals and which others associate with you.

We all have a personal brand because it represents what you have and what makes us different from others.

Your way of dressing, your attitudes, behavior and even your social media accounts are part of your brand. Your brand will make you the best or the worst candidate for job openings.

When you study about your personal brand, to build and develop your brand, you need to answer yourself some questions like, what are your values, purposes, strengths, skills, passions, among others.

These answers will be part of your identity, this is how employers and colleagues will see you.

To better understand your personal brand, you need self-knowledge, internal analysis, from which you discover who you really are, analyze where you are and where you are going to. After that, you define your goals firmly and devise a strategy to achieve them. That said, the best way to seek knowledge on this subject is with a psychologist.

Reflective - This was a subject that I particularly enjoyed and acquired valuable knowledge.

In the competitive business world in which we live today, we need much more than knowing and connecting well with people. One of the skills that I believe to be a great competitive advantage is connecting people.

Studying this topic, I opened my mind and realized that it is extremely important for you to open an account, whether on LinkedIn or another similar site, that said, it is good to “make sure that all your contact points (Facebook, LinkedIn, personal website, and so forth) are consistent and up-to-date.”  (Clark, 2014)

Currently, networking is one of the best way to get a job, so it is extremely important that you work with your personal brand, because our brand makes us stand out, be different, relevant and visible in a specific sector, derived of the added value of our brand.

I also realized that “professionally, your personal brand is the image that people see of you. It can be a combination of how they look at you in real life, how the media portrays you, and the impression that people gain from the information about you available online.(Marketing, 2020)

Therefore, another reflection I had is that we have to be very careful in what we put on social media, because nowadays companies are increasingly starting to check our Facebook, Instagram, because, that is part of the Personal brand of candidates for jobs.

An interesting thing that I discovered while studying about the personal brand is that we can always modify, improve our personal brand. So, for example, if you have a weak networking or your personal brand in social media are not good, you can always improve and there are qualified people for that.

Just don't forget that it takes a while to build a strong personal brand, so reading and researching I found that the right word for you who seeks to build your personal brand is persistence.

Interpretive – By acquiring the knowledge of what your personal brand is, you can work to improve it.

By working with your brand, you can become the best candidate for the job you are looking for.

Having the humility that you need to improve in some weaknesses and even in some strengths, makes it easier for you to have a strong personal brand.

Nowadays, the virtual world has taken strength, so you need to create your brand on social networks and you need to be noticed.

Thus, it is extremely important to put into practice what has been studied in the mentioned theme, so that you do not fall behind other candidates.

Companies constantly receive similar resumes and what will make the difference between being hired or not, will be your personal brand.

That's why you must build, work, promote, communicate and protect your Personal Brand

Decisional - To initiate with your personal brand, you can do what I did. First of all, you can start by writing things about yourself. For example, your skills, some words that define you, writing what motivates you, things you like to do, whether at work or outside, what are your values, your vision and your purpose.

It requires self-knowledge to answer these questions, so if you have difficulty answering these questions, seek the help of a qualified professional.

After answering them, put the answers in your resume, in your personal life, in your social network.

If you do not have an account on social networks, open one and ask for help from those who already have it for longer. Make your personal brand attractive to people.

Don't forget, you need to be seen, be present, make contacts, be useful. In this way I am sure that you will have a positive result in your goals.

  1. Hello Lucas,

I would like to tell you I was an anti-social media user back in my home country. I refused to use these types of channels to show myself to people. It was until I arrived in Canada that I realized how important social media are to get noticed, especially for job hunting purposes. Some things are very different here compared to our home countries. Now I think it is very important to have a professional network here in Canada, where people take your digital identity and branding very seriously.

    Regards,
